IRAKLEON: Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll has signed a two-year contract with OFI Crete, the club announced on Wednesday.
Carroll, 34, was a member of the 2004 Manchester United side that won the FA Cup but is best remembered for a ‘phantom goal’ incident in a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur in January 2005.
With the score 0-0 late in the game, the Northern Irishman fumbled a halfway-line shot by Pedro Mendes well behind his goal-line but the goal was not awarded as the referee was not sure the ball had crossed the line. — AFP
