Man Utd keeper Lindegaard fires warning at Premier League leaders Man City

23/12/2011

Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard feels they're in a great position to haul in Premier League leaders Manchester City.
United have won seven games and drawn one since October’s 6-1 derby hammering – and Anders expects the champions to get stronger in the new year.
"I think City are already under real pressure," the Danish keeper told MUTV. “Ever since the City match we have performed well.
"We were unlucky to go out of the Champions League and we can only blame ourselves for that, but apart from that we have performed very well – especially recently.
"We have played some really good games; we haven’t scored as many goals as we should have but we have played some good football.
"As far as I know, United have a tradition for being strong in the winter programme, so it is going to be a very tight spring to decide who will be champions."

Man Utd ace Rooney: Our away form just amazing

23/12/2011

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has hailed their away form this season.
At this stage last season, the eventual champions had just 13 points from a possible 27 on the road, with seven draws and only two victories.
This term, after consecutive away wins at QPR and Fulham in the last week, it is 23 points from a possible 27 — with seven wins and two draws.
Add to that the fact they have only conceded three goals in those games too and United are the one team nobody wants visiting.
Rooney said: "It is an amazing turnaround. Last season we only dropped two points at home but struggled away.
"This season we've already dropped five at home but we're making up for that away."

Man Utd boss Ferguson happy with competition between Lindegaard and De Gea

23/12/2011
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with Anders Lindegaard's performance in their victory at Fulham.
The Denmark international has only been beaten once, in the 1-1 draw against Benfica, in all of his six matches this term.
When asked by MUTV if having two quality keepers is a nice problem to have, Sir Alex replied: "It’s not a problem because I think Anders has that little bit more experience. I felt his was the right time to change and we’re going to do that with David.
"He’s only 20 years of age and is going to be a fantastic goalkeeper, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. Having Anders as a back-up in terms of giving the lad a break at the right time, is proving its worth. Anders is an outstanding goalkeeper and has a little bit more experience."

Villa, Man Utd legend McGrath: Liverpool players were shameful

23/12/2011

.
Former Manchester United and Aston Villa defender Paul McGrath was shocked by Liverpool's players wearing Luis Suarez t-shirts before their draw at Wigan Athletic.
The public show of solidarity came after Suarez was handed an eight-match ban and fined £40,000 by the Football Association for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
But McGrath told talkSPORT: "Maybe Kenny [Dalglish] is trying to make a statement to the FA but I just think it is in bad taste that he sent them out in those T-shirts. It would have been much better forLiverpool Football Club if they had have worn anti-racism shirts.
"It’s about respect. There’s this issue going on about respecting your opponents. It is actually a game. The game itself has gone too big, it’s about winning and the money. The actual element of football being a game has long since gone, it is all about protecting your interest, protecting your best players.
"There are a lot of children that watch these games and to have done what they did last night, doing their warm-up in T-shirts with his smiling face on it, having just been done for a supposedly racist comment to one of his opponents, is shameful for football. It puts the anti-racism campaign back to the beginning as far as I'm concerned.
"If I was in Glen Johnson’s situation, I'd have thrown the shirt to the floor," he added. "If that had been someone in my time and I'd heard the comments or I'd even suspect he was guilty, and obviously there has been a tribunal, then I would not wear a T-shirt with his name on it, saying all is well and good here."

QPR boss Warnock in awe of Man Utd star Rooney

Mon, 12/19/2011

QPR boss Neil Warnock admits he's in awe of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Rooney struck in yesterday's 2-0 win at Loftus Road.

“Wayne Rooney would be the best English player I could have. I think he would take his coat off and play in the park – because he wants to play. He may have made disciplinary mistakes in the past, but he’s the complete player,” said Warnock.

Redknapp says Man Utd's Carrick should be scoring more

Mon, 12/19/2011

Former Tottenham star Jamie Redknapp says Michael Carrick must improve his scoring record forManchester United.

Redknapp wrote in his column for the Daily Mail: "Michael Carrick’s burst from inside his own half, intercepting a sloppy Joey Barton pass and surging upfield, was impressive, but this statistic isn’t: it was his first goal for 70 games.

"I know Michael, I think he is a smashing footballer, but that isn’t good enough. I know he’s the holding player for United, but he can play with both feet, hits a ball cleanly and sweetly and should be scoring 10 goals a season."

Man Utd legend Keane can't hide Ferguson feud

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has explained turning down an invitation to attend a dinner in honour of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Keane has continued his feud with Ferguson through the press this week.

He told the Sunday Times: "The way it ended, I couldn’t have gone and sat there like everything was great. He (Ferguson) would come and we all stand up and clap. I couldn’t have done that.

"I’ve got a son and I always thought I’d go back and watch some games with him. Apart from two testimonials I have not been to the stadium. I count my blessings to have played forManchester United. All my family are United fans and I have no bitterness towards Man United. Please make that clear.

"But when you get a letter from lawyers representing the club through your letter box then you wonder what it was all about. I rang (chief executive) David Gill and said, ‘What’s this all about?’

"I would love to think that I was more than an employee at Manchester United but maybe, ultimately, I wasn’t."

Huddersfield battling to keep hold of Man Utd, Celtic target Rhodes

Mon, 12/19/2011

Huddersfield face a battle to keep hold of Jordan Rhodes.

Speculation of a big-money move away from Huddersfield has increased after Paul Scholes was spotted in the stands in October, apparently sizing Rhodes up for Manchester United.

Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager, has also been to watch Rhodes this season, says the Daily Star.

Manager Lee Clark insisted his star player will be staying at Huddersfield following talks with the club’s owner Dean Hoyle.

He said: “The chairman is not short of a bob or two and will not sell Jordan Rhodes. And the lad does not want to go.

“We spoke about that a few weeks ago because we know he’s hot property and we know that in January the calls will come. Clubs will try and test our resolve, but promotion is more important than pounds.”

Despite his manager’s comments, Rhodes refused to commit himself to the club.

He said: “All I want to do is focus on one thing at a time and, right now, that’s the next training session. I’m not thinking about whatever happens around that.

“I’ve not spoken to the manager about it. I’m just looking to improve as a player, other people can talk and speculate.”

Stoke boss Pulis questions whether Man Utd, Man City can handle Europa League

Mon, 12/19/2011

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis feels Manchester United and Manchester City face a battle adjusting to the Europa League.

Pulis reckons Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini will need to adapt to the competition.

The Potters chief said: "It's very difficult in respect of the travelling.

"I got into bed at about a quarter to five on Friday morning after the Besiktas game! It takes it out of the players.

"Their level dropped off because of the travel and the shortage of time we had to work with them.

"But we have managed to work through it now.

"We'll certainly enjoy our games against Valencia.

"The players have been buzzing since the draw because they wanted to get someone we have no chance against!"

Steve Redgrave offers support to Man Utd's Fletcher

Mon, 12/19/2011

British rowing legend Steven Redgrave is willing to help Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher over his chronic illness.

Redgrave suffers from the same inflammatory bowel condition as the Manchester United midfielder.

Scotland skipper Fletch, 27, faces an indefinite period out.

Redgrave, 49, said: "I've already spoken to him. In some ways you feel very isolated when a problem drags on for a long period.

"You feel you are the only person in that situation.

"It was not to put his mind at rest but to let him know he has someone else in the sports world who has gone through that situation.

"I've given him my number to contact me any time.

"He seemed relatively positive. It's a condition he has been struggling with for quite a while."

Man Utd legend Keane: I was blocked from entering Wigan's DW. Barred from buying season ticket!

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has revealed how he was stopped from enteringWigan Athletic's DW stadium.

Keane, who had watched a game at the DW Stadium only weeks before, even offered to buy a season ticket on the spot, but after giving the turnstile operator “a bit of lip” security was called.

He told the Daily Express: “I was down to Wigan four weeks ago, when they played Blackburn. Wigan’s a good club for me because there are generally spare seats in the far stand, away from the main one.

“Dressed in jeans, cap over my ears, scarf over my chin, I went to the woman at the window and said, ‘Can I buy a ticket?’

“She said, ‘Can I have your details?’ I said, ‘Do you have to?’ and she then said it was OK and I handed over my £20, got my ticket.

“Good value, I thought. Watched the game, enjoyed it, pie at half-time, six goals, no one recognised me, didn’t have to make small talk, good day.”

But when Keane returned to the same ticket window and the same woman for the Arsenal game two weeks later, he ran into problems.

“With my cap and scarf, she didn’t know who I was,” he said. “‘Listen, I was here two weeks ago and bought a ticket then, can I buy one now?’

“She said this was a different category game and she needed my details. I gave my name and address.

“‘You’re not on the system,’ she said. “‘I know,’ I said. ‘But I bought a ticket two weeks ago and you said it was OK’.

“‘That was for Blackburn,’ she said. ‘OK,’ I said, ‘I’ll buy a season ticket’.

“She said it wasn’t possible. ‘You’re not on the system’. And I said, ‘I think your club is £37million in debt and you don’t want my money’.

“I did give her a little bit of lip and she said she would call security. ‘Call them,’ I said. The security guy came along and put his hands on my arm.

“‘Get your hands off me,’ I said. He did.

“I strolled back to my car and drove home.”

Liverpool legend Hansen: Man Utd boss Ferguson would love to buy top centre-half

Mon, 12/19/2011

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen believes Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson's January priority is a new centre-half.

Hansen wrote in his column for the Telegraph: "It’s difficult to see where United would improve their squad if they bought in January. If, say, a Luka Modric could be signed you’d obviously go for it, but it would be upwards of £30 million and Spurs have shown already they’re not prepared to sell. If that stance changed, Chelsea and City could outbid everyone else, including United.

"Then you look at someone like Gary Cahill at Bolton, who does seem to be available in January, yet everyone was reluctant to take him last summer at £18million. That tells me Ferguson would prefer to wait and allow Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to develop as top-class defenders.

"I suspect he’d rather keep faith with those youngsters who looked so impressive in August and take the longer-term view. The most sensible deals are always done in the summer."

Man Utd midfielder Tunnicliffe open to new Peterborough loan

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe is open to extending his loan at Peterborough United.

The youngster's loan ends in January.

“I need to sit down properly with the manager, my agent and Manchester United to work out what’s best for me," he told Peterborough Today.

“Whatever happens I have enjoyed my time here. Even sitting on the bench a lot is better than playing reserve team football.

“Manchester United have a few injury problems in midfield, so maybe I can start pushing for a first-team place, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Man Utd midfielder Norwood targets Championship loan

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood wants a step up to the Championship in January.

Norwood is currently on-loan at League One Scunthorpe United.

"Before I joined Scunthorpe, the gaffer pulled me and said he wanted me to go to a Championship club at that time, but Alan Knill came in and said I would play," Norwood told skysports.com.

"He likes Alan Knill, he likes the way he plays football and I think it has done me good coming here.

"I have learnt the horrible side of the game. You have got to get your tackles in, win your headers and stop the opponent from playing and I am grateful to Alan Knill for giving me the chance to prove to people I can play at this level and play at a higher level.

"My time at Scunthorpe expires in January and I spoke to [United reserve team boss] Warren Joyce and I mentioned to him about January and he said they had not looked that far forward as yet and he just told me to keep performing and playing the way I have done and let other people worry about that.

"Hopefully a couple of Championship clubs will want to take me but it is a bit far to be looking that far ahead yet."

Man City boss Mancini sees Man Utd challenge falling over due to away day blues

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is convinced Manchester United’s challenge will collapse in the second-half of the season.

After visiting Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United already this term, it does seem the odds are stacked in his side's favour.

"We played at Tottenham, we played against United away, we played against Chelsea away, we played against Liverpool away. At home it won't be easy but it will be better for us," said Mancini.

"In the next two months United have to play Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal away and City. This is important.

"But we know United are a really strong team. We can't think we can win the title without fighting against United. This is impossible."

Man City firebrand Balotelli clashed with mitten-wielding Man Utd fan!

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester City star Mario Balotelli was spotted clashing with a mitten wielding Manchester Unitedfan last week!

The Mirror reports a couple of days after his training ground clash with Micah Richards, diners in posh eaterie San Carlo spotted Mario in another heated discussion, this time with a fellow customer who turned out to be a United supporter.< p>
How did it all end? The well-fed Red picked up the nearest weapon to hand and slapped Balotelli with it. Luckily for all concerned, it turned out to be a colourful Christmas mitten!

Man Utd working behind-the-scenes to beat Chelsea, Spurs for Cahill

Mon, 12/19/2011

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.

Cahill, off contract in June, has been linked with Tottenham and Chelsea, while Arsenal bossArsene Wenger failed with a bid for him in August.

It's understood United have been working away behind-the-scenes to land Cahill and could cough up a fee in January for his immediate signing rather than wait to take him on a Bosman in the summer.

Nemanja Vidic's season-ending injury has brought forward United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's plans for Cahill, who has convinced the Scot to go for him thanks to his accomplished performances for England.

Similar to his deal for Phil Jones, Ferguson is expected to leave rivals in his dust with a shock deal for the Trotters man in 2012 - whether that be in January or June.

Chelsea, Man Utd alerted as Pastore admits PSG just not that big

Mon, 12/19/2011

PSG midfielder Javier Pastore admits he has ambitions beyond the French league.

A target for Chelsea and Manchester United, Pastore has admitted it would be hard to refuse the advances of a bigger club.

He told Radio Radio: "I train with great conviction in order to realise my dream of playing with a big team.

"If I want a team bigger than PSG to contact me, then it depends on me."
