Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has hit out at critics of new goalkeeper David De Gea.
Schmeichel, who capped a brilliant Old Trafford career by captaining the giants to Treble glory in the Camp Nou back in 1999, says he's been asked bySir Alex Ferguson not to comment on Spanish youngster De Gea.
But he told the Daily Mirror: "I think it is absolutely ridiculous listening to people criticising him after one game.
"Everyone in this country always gets a chance so what is the point of doing that now."
Whether De Gea endures growing pains this season or not, Schmeichel is confident his new team will enjoy success again this term.
"People tend to forget that United are the champions, they have spent a lot of money this summer as well as other clubs.
"Big players have retired and have to be replaced but there has always been so much youth and talent in that United squad."
