The former Aston Villa keeper made his debut at Old Trafford on Monday night but says he is only focused on the team's results and Van der Vaart believes they could have won.

aAmerican goalkeeper Brad Friedel says he is not interested in personal recognition following Tottenham’s defeat at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The summer signing from Aston Villa made his Spurs debut against Manchester United and made several stunning saves despite the disappointing 3-0 loss.

“I don’t play for personal accolades, I really don’t. I just want to play to help the team win," Friedel said. “I don’t count the games, I’m just bitterly disappointed with the result.”

The 40-year old was signed on free transfer from Aston Villa in the summer and he is the current holder of the Premier League record for the most consecutive appearances at 276.

Friedel believes the game was much closer than the scoreline suggested but felt Spurs didn’t recover from the first goal going in.

“We came in quite pleased at halftime," Friedel said. “For the first five or 10 minutes of the second half we wanted to make sure we didn’t get carved open but once the first goal went in, the heads went down a touch and we didn’t recover."

Spurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart posted on Twitter saying he thinks the team played well in the game, but agreed with Friedel that the Danny Welbeck opener changed the course of the match.

“Hi guys, I think we had a chance yesterday. We played well but the goal changed the game unfortunately,” he tweeted.
