Manchester United - Mame Biram Diouf sets sights on first team

Mame Biram Diouf is hoping his reserve team efforts have not gone unnoticed at Manchester United after a flying start to the second string campaign.
The striker, who gained Barclays Premier League experience on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season, added to his goal against Arsenal with a brace in the 6-0 hammering of Swansea City on Thursday night.
Well aware that competition for places is at an unprecedented level this season under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Senegalese forward is keen to make an impact in the first team and work his way up the pecking order amongst the seven senior players in the position.
“Football is always a competition but hopefully I'll get more opportunities, more games and more experience,” the 23-year-old told MUTV.
“Being at United is a wonderful thing and being one of the seven strikers is only going to help me learn. It's always good to play alongside Rooney, Welbeck or Berbatov.
“I've got two Reserves games under my belt now, I'm working hard and focusing on the next game, so I can be ready for whenever I get the chance in the first team.”
Italian starlet Federico Macheda, another striker looking to make a senior impact, opened the scoring against the Welsh outfit, with Paul Pogba doubling the Red Devils' advantage.
Diouf's double was followed by Jesse Lingard making it five, before Will Keane finished the rout in injury-time. The game was also an opportunity for Darren Fletcher to get 90 minutes under his belt, and the Scottish skipper is now in contention to face Arsenal with the first team on Sunday.
