Lionel Messi has won the fans' vote for best player of the 2010-11 season on Goal.com in the Goal.com 50, beating out nine opponents by a convincing margin.

The Barcelona and Argentina wizard won last season's fan prize ahead of main winner Wesley Sneijder in a close-run race, but this time around found himself clear at the top ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid's superstar put up a good challenge and as such found himself way ahead of the chasing pack, where Manchester United's Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez was a surprise third, having finished 10th in the main rankings.

Mesut Ozil and Xavi then followed to make it four Liga players in the top five, with Nemanja Vidic placing sixth to bring back some Premier League pride. Radamel Falcao, Andres Iniesta, Edinson Cavani, and Alexis Sanchez rounded out the list.

Over 300,000 voters from all over the world took part across every Goal.com edition. Interestingly, Messi won the individual vote on all sites except Turkey and Hong Kong, where in both cases Cristiano Ronaldo managed a narrow victory.

Below are given the network-wide voting results in graph and chart form. In the graph you can also see where the player stood in the main Goal.com 50 2010-11 award, given last month.
