Manchester United legend Roy Keane failed to appear for a meeting with the Iceland FA over the national coaching post this week.
The Daily Mail says FA officials in Reykjavik are still hopeful the formerManchester United captain will turn up for a Euro 2012 qualifier with Cyprus on Tuesday night as they look for a new manager for the World Cup 2014 campaign.
But when they arrived to welcome Keane at Reykjavik airport yesterday afternoon, the former Sunderland and Ipswich boss was nowhere in sight.
Sources say the Icelandic FA are still keen to offer him the £400,000-a-year role.
