Man Utd chief Gill pays tribute to Benfica and Portuguese football

15.09.11

Manchester United chief David Gill says the club is a great admirer of Portuguese football and Benfica.

The two clubs played out a 1-1 draw in their Champions League opener last night.

"These teams faced off in 2006 here in the Stadium of Light for the group stage, but now it is different. We are in a beautiful city, a stadium that is spectacular and full of great fans.Benfica have experience in organizing big games and everything went well, inside and outside the stadium," said Gill.

"It's great to be in Portugal. The weather is fantastic and we have good relations with the Portuguese. The Champions League is this: interaction between two great clubs and exciting games."
