The Mail on Sunday says Sunderlandhave emerged as favourites to signManchester United defender Brown by offering him a four-year deal.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has tried to see off Stoke, Aston Villa andEverton by giving the 31-year-old a long-term contract that his rivals were unwilling to match because of the defender's injury problems.
Brown wanted to stay in the north-west but is set to be persuaded by Bruce's commitment.
