Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists Wayne Rooney missed their defeat toBlackburn Rovers due to injury.
United lost 3-2 yesterday.
Asked about Rooney’s absence, Fergie said “Wayne hasn’t trained well all week. He’s missed a few days, but was due to train today and tomorrow and will hopefully be back for Newcastle.
“He has got little strains here and there.”
Fergie went on: “We never expected that. We have conceded three terrible goals and you can’t do that against a team that are fighting for their lives.
“At 2-2, I thought we were going to win it.”
