Man Utd boss Ferguson dismisses Arsenal, Chelsea title chances

Sat, 12/31/2011

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes only three teams are capable of winning the title.

The racing fanatic dismissed Arsenal and Chelsea as also-rans as the table begins to take shape.

Ferguson said: "It's only the end of December.

"We surrendered a 12-point lead to Arsenal some years ago and also gone on to win the title having been 12 points behind Newcastle. Last year in November, Chelsea were seven points clear but we took over.

"You think of some of the games coming up and you can't say for sure that'll be the case. But the difficulty for Arsenal and Chelsea is that they've got to overtake three teams.

"Unless three teams collapse then that's the only chance for them to take advantage.

"Tottenham play the best football in the country, I think. Their form is the best. They can definitely win it on that form.

"We're five or six points ahead of the previous year's form. So City's form is equal to that. That 45-point total at this time of year is huge.

"It will be nip and tuck between the two clubs but then I think Tottenham are the best team at the moment."
