Three years and three managers after Sir Alex Ferguson predicted the average age of Chelsea's players would start to catch up with them, Lampard and his manager gave the appearance of being unruffled by the pressure.
"In the Abramovich era we had six or seven very successful years but you can't win every year, that's obvious," said Lampard. "But credit to Manchester United, they deserved to win the League and I don't think anyone would dispute that Barcelonadeserved to win the European Cup.
"Our problems came in the middle of the season when we couldn't get our focus right. This season will be about keeping our eye on the ball and we have the ability and the players to do that."
