Ashley Young insists Manchester United need to win Premier League & Europa League
February 19, 2012
Ashley Young believes Manchester United need to win both the Premier League and Europa League this season for it to be classed as a success.
The Red Devils are well positioned in both competitions, sitting just behind local rivals Manchester City at the top of the table whilst securing a 2-0 win over Ajax in Europe on Thursday night.
After a group stage knockout in the Champions League, as well as defeats to Crystal Palace and Liverpool in the League and FA Cup respectively, pressure has been on Sir Alex Ferguson's side to secure success in other competitions.
And Young insists United are thriving on the pressure that's currently being placed on the champions, with plenty of big games on the horizon both at Old Traffordand away from home.
"Winning the title race and winning this competition [the Europa League] is what we would consider a successful season. That's what we're involved in and that's what we want to do," Young told the Manchester Evening News.
"It's the biggest team in the world and you always want to beat the big teams. It's like a cup final for other teams, especially at Old Trafford. So we know there's always pressure. It's how you deal with it.
"Every game is going to be a tough game from here. As long as we go out there, concentrate on ourselves and produce the sort of performances that have been coming in the last few weeks it will be good enough to win the title."
The England international has only just returned to full fitness for his side, but appears back to his best for this season's run-in after scoring against the Godenzonen at the Amsterdam Arena in midweek.
