Man Utd legend Scholes casts doubt on long-term coaching career

Thu, 10/06/2011

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is unsure if he will stick to his new coaching career.

Scholes, 36, retired in the summer after a glittering 20-year career with United because he felt he was no longer playing well enough, and is obviously prepared to be as hard-nosed about coaching.

“I’ve joined in with Warren Joyce, who runs the reserves,” he said. “He’s been looking after me, showing me the ropes, and I’ve mainly been training with them so far, just giving bits of advice where I see the need.

“I’ve started my badges - whether I finish them is another question.

“I haven’t made my mind up about coaching. I’ve only been doing it for two or three weeks now. If I feel I can succeed and be half decent, I’ll carry on.

“If I feel I don’t think it’s the thing for me and I won’t be any good at it, I won’t pursue it. I don’t want to be just average at it.”
