Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney can become the club's greatest ever goal scorer.
Sir Bobby Charlton's haul of 249 goals has stood for almost 40 years, but United boss Ferguson reckons Rooney - currently on 156 - has what it takes to break it and rewrite the record books.
Asked if Rooney could break Charlton's record, Ferguson said: "Wayne is only 25 years of age, so you'd think he has at least another five years in him at the very top level.
"And, if he looks after himself like Ryan Giggs [has], he could play well into his 30s, so the opportunity's there for him. Time is on his side.
"He's raced out of the blocks already this season and I hope he could get up around the 30 mark [for goals this season]."
