Man Utd legend Robson: Man City can't buy title this season

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson doesn't believe Manchester City can buy the title.

Roberto Mancini could further reinforce City's title bid in the January transfer window, but Robson is sceptical about the idea that money alone can take them all the way.

"It's true City can throw money at it if they identify an area that needs strengthening, but it's not always as easy as that," he told the Daily Mail. "Trying to get players who will actually improve a squad like theirs will be difficult. There aren't many out there, for one thing, and for another, they will take some prising away.

"The very best players are already at top clubs and may well not want to leave. It would be easy for United to say they could overhaul Barcelona by splashing out on Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, but how do you get them out of the Nou Camp? It is easier said than done.

"I believe, for all City's money, we still have the edge over them, because we have the tradition and are still winning the big prizes. Take money out of the equation, and players would want to go to United more than to City, because of the tradition and what the club is all about.

"Of course, money is a factor, as we saw in the summer with Nasri. United were interested in him, but he went to City for the money. He also probably felt he would be playing more at City, but the fact is they can top the rest on wages.

"It can be a problem keeping everyone happy, with a big squad, but it's not so much of a problem for United, because the manager has brought in quite a few younger players, and they are more prepared to accept taking a turn on the bench. They are learning their trade and realise they won't be playing every week."
