Manchester United manager knows victory is crucial against Otelul Galati
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has stressed the importance of victory in Wednesday's Champions League clash against Otelul Galati.
Dorinel Munteanu's side proved difficult opponents when the two sides met in Romania a fortnight ago, with two Wayne Rooney penalties proving the difference between the sides.
Whilst many predicted the Red Devils would be too strong for Galati, Ferguson was unsusprised by the tough test handed to his players, and won't be making many changes from the side that beat Everton 1-0 in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.
"Their games against Basel and Benfica had been tight and they were exactly that way against us. Galati set out their stall to make sure they weren’t going to be embarrassed. Having watched them, I knew nobody turns them over," said Ferguson.
"They were well organised, really determined defensively and they got stuck right into us. Some of the tackles in the second half were very aggressive. It made it a difficult type of game.
"I don't think there will be a lot of changes. Maybe two or three but no more. We have to win on Wednesday, without doubt. We're at home and I expect us to win and, if we do that, it's in our hands when we play Benfica at home."
Whilst the top two sides qualify from the group, finishing first has always been the priority for United in order to miss Europe's top sides in the last 16 of the competition.
Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Real Madrid all sit top of their respective tables at the current time, and with Barcelona expected to pip AC Milan to first place in Group H, it could be key to progressing to the later stages.
"It’s always been better to finish first than second. After getting the first result against Galati and then playing them again at home, we’ll hopefully go into the Benfica game with eight points," he added.
"That will be an important match."
