Thierry Henry: Chicharito's debut season with Manchester United was amazing

The soccer legend hails Chicharito, who recently returned to the Red Devils following his Gold Cup title with Mexico.

NEW YORK - Add Thierry Henry to the millions of Chicharito fans around the world.

The New York Red Bulls forward was very impressed by Javier Hernandez's first season with Manchester United after the Mexican youngster exploded onto the scene with 13 league goals to help lead his team to the Premier League title.

"He's a great finisher," said Henry. "Going to Manchester United and doing what he did was just amazing. I don't think anyone was expecting him to do what he did, but he did it."

Chicharito played his first game with the English club last summer against Major League Soccer's All-Star team. And this year, he's back with United as the team takes on the best players in MLS this Wednesday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

"My first game with Manchester United was in [last year's] preseason, also against the MLS All-Stars and I'm very happy to be with my team again," Chicharito said.

Chicharito recently rejoined the Red Devils, who have spent the last couple weeks touring the United States and dominating MLS teams. The striker had been away from the team since leading Mexico to the Gold Cup title in June and will slowly work his way back.

Sir Alex Ferguson, United's legendary coach, stressed that it will take some time before Chicharito is on the pitch this summer. The Premier League season is a marathon, not a sprint, so there's no need to rush the 23-year-old back into action.

"The first and most important thing is to re-energize him, give him the proper training before we even consider him for the first team because the season will not be decided in the first match," he said. "When we get to understand where he is in terms of the physical side we then can start introducing him to the team again."
