The Colombia international is under consideration at United as an alternative to Benfica's Nicolas Gaitan.
Rodriguez is regarded highly across the continent and almost signed for Inter Milan in January.
The midfielder has been with Porto since 2010 and his contract carries a buyout clause of €40 million.
